Hello!
Now that A Level exams are over (at last!) I can finally focus on my exciting year ahead!
Back in June 2013 I attended a selection course with the educational charity Project Trust, who send away thousands of volunteers on projects across Africa, Asia and South America. After 5 days on the Isle of Coll, I was lucky enough to be selected for a placement in the West African, French and Wolof (?! you can speak as much as me!) speaking country of Senegal!
I’m still a little way off my fundraising total of £5600, which will cover the costs of my whole year, but I hope that I will get nearer over the next couple of months – I’ll try to keep you updated on any fundraising events!
My project is based in the small fishing town of Joal-Fadiouth, where I will be living with a local family and teaching English to Secondary School and Lycee (Sixth Form) aged students. I’m so excited to get started – despite my current lack of teaching experience! My predicted departure date is the 12th September – so close already!
I hope that this blog will be a good way to keep you all, friends, family and donors, updated on what I’m up to and how I’m getting on, and maybe save some of you from having to listen to the same stories over and over again!
